grO is a hydroponic planter that helps to solve a number of problems regarding aging in place. Our studio partnered with an architecture firm in Ronaoke, VA called SFCS that designs for assisted living. Through our research we found that gardening is a hobby of most people over the age of 65, and that the longest living societies garden throughout their lives. Our planter provides a clean and easy way to garden in the home, which has been proven to help with seasonal depression and bring an awareness to nutrition.
Ideation:
Growing is simple in this system; you just fill the chamber with water and growing solution. Germinated seeds can be placed in the growing medium, generally lava rock or clay, and in 10 weeks you can have a full head of lettuce. The solution only needs to be changed once every 2 weeks. The ease and from is simple, it has the capability to inspire a healthier diet and watching the progression in growing plants delights people of all ages.
Our product improves quality of life for the elderly, but the market’s trend for farm to table and organic cooking leaves profitability limitless.
